Directions: Melt the beeswax and almond oil together in a double boiler. Add the warm tea to the wax and oil mixture in a thin stream, whisking vigorously. Remove the mixture from heat and immerse the bowl in a cool water bath to make the cream congeal, again whisking vigorously. As the cream begins to form add the essential oils drop by drop and whisk them into the mixture.

3 drops basil essential oil

3 drops thyme essential oil

Directions: DO NOT INGEST!

 

In a small glass (a shot glass, glass ramekin or glass measuring device works well) blend the recommended oils. Drop into your favorite diffuser, humidifier or simply breathe deeply directly from your blending glass. Be very careful not to get on the hands or skin as it could be quite irritating.

 

When finished with the blend, simply set the glass aside in a place that is out of the reach of children. The oils will continue to volatize and the aroma will be useful and enjoyed for hours. You may also choose to empty the oils into a sink, bathtub or shower where the oils will continue to volatize until they are washed down the drain. Ingredients

3 ounces jojoba oil

1 ounce rosehip seed oil

3 ounces distilled water

1/2 ounce beeswax

15 drops geranium oil

10 drops carrot seed oil

10 drops lavender oil

 

Directions: Heat the wax, jojoba and rosehip seed oils in a double boiler until the wax melts. Add the water gradually while whisking the mixture into a creamy emulsion. Continue whisking until the cream cools, incorporate the essential oils and store in a tightly closed container.

Directions: Try the following balancing aromatherapy blend in the bath (5 to 10 drops per bath), a spray mister (10 drops per ounce of distilled water), or in an aromatherapy lamp.

31. Lavender Skin-Soother Calming Body Mist

 

Ingredients

1 teaspoon plain vinegar or 1 teaspoon herb-infused vinegar (lavender, rose, peppermint, etc.)

18 drops lavender essential oil

4 ounces water or 4 ounces water-based liquid, such as green tea, hydrosol or aloe juice

 

Directions: Place vinegar in a spray mister bottle. Add the essential oils and shake. Add water, cap and mist clothes and skin. Always shake well before use. Avoid eyes and sensitive areas.

The sensitive skin and tissues of the feet contain many nerves and blood vessels that readily absorb the healing effects of essential oils and carry them throughout the body. A foot massage can be easily performed on oneself and is a perfect stress reducing activity.

 

Ingredients

2 tablespoons sea salt

1 tablespoon Epsom salts

1 tablespoon sodium bicarbonate or 1 tablespoon baking soda

1 tablespoon French white clay powder

1 tablespoon rose petals

1 tablespoon lavender flowers

8 drops lavender oil

4 drops rose oil

4 drops cedarwood oil

2 drops patchouli oil

2  gallons of hot water

 

Directions: Begin you luxurious foot treatment by soaking in a very warm foot bath, enhanced with the addition of minerals such as Borax, Epsom salt, baking soda, sea salts and French clay powders. Add herbs and flowers such as rose, chamomile, lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus. These will release their therapeutic scents and look beautiful floating in the water. Also add a few drops of relaxing and soothing essential oils to complete this indulgent blend.

 

Mix the essential oils evenly throughout the dry mixture. Dissolve the mixture in two gallons of hot water, making sure the oils are dispersed.

39. Moisturizing Cream

 

The tenacious, low volatility of base note oils like patchouli and sandalwood, as well as heavily scented floral oils like rose and ylang ylang are especially well suited for dry skin preparations.

4 ounces almond oil

3 ounces rosewater

1/2 ounce beeswax

10 drops rose essential oil

5 drops lavender essential oil

4  bergamot essential oil

8 drops patchouli essential oil

8 drops sandalwood essential oil

 

Directions: Melt the wax and the almond oil in a double boiler. Decrease the heat and add the rosewater gradually in a thin stream while vigorously beating the mixture. As soon as the water is incorporated remove from heat. When the mixture cools and turns creamy, add the essential oils.

40. Mouth Freshening Gargle

 

Ingredients

2 drops peppermint essential oil

1 drop myrrh essential oil

1 drop tea tree oil

 

Directions: Blend with a small amount of milk (rice, soy, dairy, hemp, almond, etc)gargle or swish in the mouth for approximately 60 seconds several times each day. Continue as necessary.

Water is o.k., but the fat in the milk acts as a buffer and effectively distributes the oils

 

Take care not to swallow!

 

 

We Suggest: One or two drops of thyme or oregano can be added to this blend. Be careful, however, as some find these oils to be somewhat irritating.

41. North Woods Sauna Blend

In aromatherapy, pine is used in saunas, steam baths and massage blends for sore muscles. The natural evergreen aroma of pine essential oil is a sweet alternative to harshly medicinal pharmaceutical preparations. Here's a recipe that combines the oils of several plants used to add, therapeutic fragrance to steams and saunas.

 

Ingredients

30 drops pine essential oil

30 drops lemon essential oil

20 drops juniper berry essential oil

10 drops fir needle essential oil

5 drops sweet birch essentail oil

5 drops wintergreen essentail oil

 

Directions: Create your own personal sauna by adding several drops of this blend to a large bowl of boiling water. Make a tent over your head with a soft towel, then lean over the bowl and inhale.

Directions: Add beeswax to oil in a Pyrex cup or bowl. Place in a hot water bath. Heat until melted. Place the water in a blender. Allow the oil/wax mixture to cool. When the temperatures of the oil and water are comparable, turn on the blender and add the oil in a thin stream. Blend until a cream develops. Blend in the essential oils and store in a jar in the refrigerator.

 

We Suggest: A pinch of Sodium Borate (Borax) dissolved in the water prior to blending will help emulsify the mixture and prevent separation.

45. Outdoor Lotion

 

Ingredients

8 ounces distilled water

12 drops bergamot orange essential oil

12 drops lemon essential oil

6 drops rosemary essential oil

Directions: Pour this mixture into a bottle with a spray atomizer attachment. Shake the bottle vigorously and mist over exposed skin.

53. Restoring Rose Facial

 

Ingredients

5 drops rose otto essential oil or  rose absolute essentail oil

 

Directions: Apply to the palm of the hand. With the fingers from the other hand apply directly to the face, neck and décolletage

Ingredients

2 tablespoons sea salt

1 tablespoon Epsom salts

55. Rose and Lavender Facial Cream

 

In aromatherapy, rose oil inspires emotional calm and stability without sedative effects. The aroma is powerful and comforting. Its physical actions are mildly astringent and balancing. Rose and lavender facial cream is excellent for sensitive combination skin. Dabbed onto a freshly washed face this cream is a fragrant, toning emollient.

 

Ingredients

4 ounces jojoba oil

3 ounces distilled water

1/2 ounce beeswax

20 drops rose absolute or  rose otto essential oil

15 drops lavender essential oil

 

Directions: Melt the wax in the jojoba oil using a double boiler. Add the distilled water in a thin stream while vigorously beating the mixture with a wire whisk. Remove from heat and continue whisking the oil while adding the essential oils drop by drop. Suggested variation: Make a tea of fresh rose petals and lavender flowers and use this in place of the distilled water.

56. Rose Perfume

 

This a simple recipe for a rose perfume. Although it calls for rose oil only, some of the drops can be replaced with other essential oils to create a distinctive personal essence.

 

Ingredients

3 ounces vodka

30 drops rose absolute or  rose otto essential oil

 small funnel

 coffee filters

 empty perfume or cologne bottle

 

Directions: Add the oil to the vodka. Shake gently and allow the mixture to age for 2 to 3 weeks. This aging allows the alcohol to extract the aromatic constituents of the oil that are only partially soluble in the alcohol. You may notice globules of the undissolved constituents floating around in the mixture -- this is normal. After aging the mixture, chill it briefly and filter it using the funnel and a coffee filter. Let the mixture settle. If any additional globules form, chill and filter again. Repeat this process until all traces of undissolved oil are removed. At this point your personal essence is ready to use.

Directions: Wash face and hands thoroughly before use mixing. Drop each into the palm of the hand and massage liberally into the face and neck, concentrating on dry patches. If possible, exfoliate the skin with unscented body polish before use. This will help slough off dead, dry skin and expose fresh, clear skin. Dry skin can impede the penetration of essential oils.

30 drops pine essential oil

30 drops juniper berry essentail oil

Directions: To make a penetrating massage oil for overworked muscles, dilute 12 drops of this concentrated blend in 3 ounces of vegetable oil (such as sweet almond.) (Never apply concentrated essential oil blends directly to skin without diluting them firstÆirritation may develop.)
