Pore is a pathway for oils secreted from sebaseous glands and an opening where hair grows. Generally it is very small with a diameter of o.o2 - o.05 mm and there are about 2 million pores in a face.
Causes for pore enlargement are due to excess sebum, loss of elasticity from aging, and genetic factors. Because pores are the pathway for sebum secretion, they slowly enlarge after puberty with secretion of excess sebum due to hormone effects. Women loose skin elasticity in mid to late 20's and causes pores to widened. When pore are widened, sebum can be easily stagnated and allow for dust and bacteria to infiltrate causing skin troubles.
